About Us

To start, we’ll tell you what we are. We are a couple of “fluffy” southern travelers who like sharing our experiences with others so they can have a wonderful time traveling too! Derrick and I love the south. We enjoy the hospitality, cuisine, history and culture that comes with living in and traveling through the south.
Both of us love beaches, mountains, forests, deserts, theme parks, historical sites, big cities, farm country and small towns. We love participating in festivals, fairs and grass roots missions when we travel so we can get to know the people who live and work in the destinations we visit. If there’s something we can participate in that helps us understand what makes a community unique, we’re doing it!
A Little About Us: Who We Are
I’m Jaimie and that handsome fella with me in the pictures up top is my hubby Derrick. I call him Dhubs. Other people call him Big D.
We grew up in North Carolina. Dhubs lived in various parts of the Carolinas in his younger years. I spent most of my twenties moving around for career opportunities.
Although I loved the adventure of living in new places, I missed home. So, I moved back to my beloved NC and then met Dhubs.
We married and rescued some critters. We’re still living our happily ever after eleven years later. We both have day jobs and side hustles. We aren’t full time travelers yet, but that is our goal.

Life Long Traveling Southerners
We figured out early in our relationship that we both LOVE to travel. Dhubs and I travel well together. Which for the record, is SUPER important.
We love going any and everywhere, but we consistently find ourselves drawn to destinations that offer southern charm.

About Us: Jaimie’s Journey
I have very fond memories of mountain and beach trips from my childhood that inspired me to explore other places. My family traveled mostly in the southeast during my childhood and I can’t imagine a better place to start a traveling life.

I began traveling seriously in college. My first “adult” trip was a fall break trip to Boston my freshman year. Afterwards, I decided to see more of the world and began traveling across the country and around the world. I fell in love with exploring new places and meeting amazing people from other cultures.

Professionally, I plan and book travel for couples, families, and groups and write about travel for y’all. I founded and run a non profit that teaches kids and teens how to use their creativity to build a better life for themselves. Basically, they learn artisan and life skills and we also provide travel opportunities to kids so they can see artisans in action. This site funds that organization.
About Us: Derrick’s Journey
Dhubs traveled to many southern destinations as a kid. He began traveling internationally in high school. Derrick is a history buff. He checks out historical sites and museums everywhere we go. We make it a point to check out the history of all the places we travel.

Derrick works for a large corporation which means he doesn’t always get to go with me on longer trips. Ultimately he wants to work remotely full time so he can join in on all the adventures!
Dhubs is a side hustling kind of guy as well. Right now, he consults with small manufacturers and businesses to ensure they are compliant with safety standards and have healthy HR practices. He also runs a property inspection company to ensure rental homes are clean and ready for new tenants. Can you tell I’m proud of my smarty pants hubby?

Dhubs is also a fan of good, simple food and he is our “where to eat” expert. If you want to know if your kid will like the food at a restaurant, Derrick’s picks are the way to go. I choose more exotic dishes if that’s where your tastebuds turn.

Dhubs and I are both southern to our very core. We know that, in the south, sippin’ on sweet ice tea, munching on a buttermilk biscuit and rocking on a front porch can restore the weariest of souls. Our family explores southern destinations frequently because it always feels a little like home.
We enjoy all the simple pleasures of southern life. The character, music, culture, food and even the weather most of the time are wonderful to encounter. We started a blog to share the best the south has to offer with others and to help people plan their best southern trips.
The Day To Day
As a southern travel advisor, I help my clients find the best travel hacks, money saving tips and help them create memorable experiences. Therefore, we are always on a mission to find ways to help people make the most of their time and resources when we travel.

We travel to popular destinations and hidden gems. I hunt for the most hospitable lodging options. We connect with locals to find the most fun and memorable activities everywhere we go. Dhubs loves to eat at the local favorites.
Foodies and Fun Lovers
As foodies, we eat at famous eateries and hidden gems. Derrick and I try all the local cuisines. We’ll eat BBQ, biscuits, grits and shrimp creole and everything in between. We critically evaluate all of our experiences and share the results with you.
See our foodie favorites in each of our destination posts. We like to eat and know most people like to indulge a little on vacation no matter where they travel. You can find some southerners’ favorite restaurants in every state in our Best Southern Restaurants: Locals Picks article.
